Home staff suspended in abuse claim- July 27, 2008
Bosses at Kerrvale Nursing Home in Bridgeton, Glasgow, launched an investigation into the claims approximately six weeks ago.
It is understood the allegations involve the behaviour of the workers towards residents, but do not involve sexual abuse.
The home is owned by Southern Cross, which states on its website that it is largest provider of care homes in the UK. The firm has a total of 727 care homes and employs some 41,000 people.
A company spokesman said: "An investigation is taking place concerning the alleged conduct of two members of staff who are currently suspended pending inquiries.
"We take allegations of abuse very seriously and we are keeping the Care Commission and the city council fully informed."
Kerrvale Nursing Home provides care for elderly people with physical frailty and dementia as well as younger people with physical disabilities.
The Care Commission was set up to to regulate all adult, child and independent healthcare services in Scotland.
And regional manager Gill Swapp said management at the home had taken the appropriate action.
Ms Swapp said: "The allegations of abuse at Kerrvale Care Home were made directly to the home management. They took the appropriate action by informing us immediately, launching a full investigation and suspending a number of staff at the centre of the allegations."
